# 003 Padma: changes and build notes

Record page: `003-padma.html` (one file, 1.67 MB, no network requests). Prepared 27 September 2026 (PT).
Same locked template as `002/002-yin-yang.html` and `004/004-sri-yantra.html`. **Nothing has been uploaded, published, committed or emailed.**

## 1. The founder's text: what changed and why

His text (`FOUNDER-TEXT-2026-09-27.md`) is used close to word for word. His spelling ("center") and his em dashes are kept.

| His text | On the page | Why |
|---|---|---|
| "That's 003 · Padma — not the yoga door. …" | Why line: "003 · Padma — not the yoga door. The pink bloom sits in the heart of twelve green petals. Twelve is Anahata. The green holds; the pink opens." | Dropped the conversational "That's" so the line stands alone as a quote. Nothing else changed |
| "What it is. … Deep emerald field. One linen cushion. Soft window light on dark walnut." | "What it is" ends at "Deep emerald field." | **Cut** "One linen cushion. Soft window light on dark walnut." It describes the floor photo, not the carpet (as instructed, and as his own note says) |
| The labels "What it is.", "Why it is a masterpiece.", "The geometry." | Used as section headings (without the full stop) | Template layout |
| "The mantra. Yam. One syllable. The seed of Anahata. Not a plea — a recognition. …" | Gold framed, centred italic block "Yam." with "One syllable. The seed of Anahata." beneath it, styled exactly like 002 and 004. "Not a plea — a recognition. …" follows word for word | Template layout. The label "The mantra." became the section heading "How to sit with this carpet" |
| "The sit. …", "The sequence. …" | Word for word, each led by its label in gold italic | None |
| "Pain is information. … it invites, and it waits." | Word for word, as a quiet italic note under a thin rule at the end of the practice section | It tells people to soften, open their eyes or stand, and makes no health claim |

## 2. Lines added (not in his text)

1. **Bindu line** (in "What it is"): "A small gold point sits at the heart of the bloom." The loom master has a gold disc at the lotus centre (radius about 25–28 mm), and his text does not mention it.
2. **Yam as tradition** (just before the mantra block): "The mantra is traditional: the seed syllable of Anahata, the heart lotus. It is not Khard Hridaya's own."
3. **Yam source note** (after "Not a plea…"): "In the *Sat-Cakra-Nirupana* (Purnananda, 1577), the lotus in the heart has twelve petals and is called Anahata; the seed syllable within it is Yam, the seed of air (verses 22–23, in Arthur Avalon's translation, *The Serpent Power*)."
4. **"Fourteen silk colours, as the loom master shows them:"** with the 14 yarn swatches, then "Now it waits for its master." (both as on 002).
5. **"The lotus"**, a short legend of four paragraphs: padma as a Sanskrit word for the lotus; the Buddha's simile; Gita 5.10 in Telang's 1882 translation; the lotus throne in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain art; and the Sat-Cakra-Nirupana's twelve-petalled Anahata, "unstruck", with a commentary quote. Every claim is in `SOURCES.md`, and there are no invented dates.
6. Hero line: "Drawn from the carpet's loom master. The green rings settle, the bloom opens, and a gold point appears."
7. Record table, "Not a token. Not a medical device.", Sources, and the footer "Khard Hridaya Inc · Toronto" / "Record prepared 27 September 2026".

## 3. Checks on the loom master

- **Outer ring: 12** large green petals, about 30° apart. His "twelve" is correct, so his text is unchanged. Between the tips of those petals, at the rim, sit 12 small green leaves.
- **Inner ring: 24** small petals around the central medallion, alternating 12 larger and 12 smaller, each with a gold bud.
- **Bindu:** a gold disc at the lotus centre, about (750, 719) mm, radius about 25–28 mm. Covered by the added line above.
- Method: the petals were counted on polar unwraps of the loom master render around the medallion centre (750, 717) mm.

## 4. Record table

Carpet: Khard Hridaya Carpet 003 · Name: Padma · Size: 1.5 m round · Material: Hand-knotted mulberry silk · Knots: 150 knots per square inch, about 410,900 in all · Petals: Outer ring 12, inner ring 24 (added 27 Sep 2026, 5:10 PM PT, at the founder's request) · Origin: India, Nepal · Status: Waiting for its master (the same words as 002) · Weaver: To be named when the loom starts · Loom master: SVG, PNG and PDF, each with its SHA-256 · Internet Archive item: To be filed · CID: To be filed.

## 5. The drawing and the animation

- **Source:** only `HRIDAYA-GTC-003-LOOM-MASTER.svg`. The floor photo was not used.
- **Why it had to be simplified:** the master is 7.8 MB of traced curves (9,672 paths), too heavy to embed as it is. `src/convert.py` flattens every curve and simplifies it with Douglas–Peucker at 0.25 mm (the same tolerance as 004). It then writes integer relative coordinates in 0.25 mm units (viewBox 0 0 6000 6000). All 14 fills and the master's stacking order are kept. That gives about 1.27 MB of path data.
- **Layers:** `src/layers.py` renders an ownership map of the master (which path is visible at each point). It then splits the stack into five clipped layers: rim (with a flat Forest Field disc under it), green rings, medallion, pink bloom, and gold point. Each layer holds exactly the paths visible in its region, in master order, so the layers at rest add up to the master.
- **Fidelity at rest** (`src/check.py`, 1000 px against the 6000 px master PNG, inside the round): 0.61% of pixels differ by more than 30/255 (edge antialiasing only), and 0.01% by more than 80/255. There are no seams at the clip edges (0.00% at both boundaries).
- **The one animation, about 10 seconds:** the rim fades in; the green petal rings settle in (a quiet 18° turn from 104% scale, with a fade, from 0.2 s); the medallion fades in; the pink bloom opens from its centre (from 4.4 s); then the gold point appears (from 8.2 s). The caption follows it: "Green petals, settling" → "The bloom, opening" → "A gold point at the heart" → "The whole carpet". The Pause, Continue and Play again controls work as on 002.
- **Reduced motion:** with `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce`, nothing moves on load and the full carpet shows. The button reads "Play" and runs the animation only when pressed.

## 6. Checks run (Chrome through Playwright, `src/shoot.mjs`)

- No external requests (CSP `default-src 'none'`; fonts are embedded as subsetted woff2). The four source links are ordinary links that are fetched only if clicked.
- No sideways scroll at 1280 px or 390 px.
- The smallest text is 18 px (dt, hashes, sources, captions). Body text is 20 px on desktop and 19 px on mobile.
- No prices, health or benefit claims, or weaver names (a word scan of the page text was clean).

## 7. Files

- `003-padma.html`: the record.
- `SOURCES.md`: claim-by-claim sources, the Yam verification, and the hashes.
- `src/`: `convert.py` → `paths.json`; `layers.py` (+ `idrender.mjs`, `idmap.py`) → `layers.json`; `build.py` → the page; `extract_text.py` → `page-text.txt`; `shoot.mjs` → screenshots; `check.py` → fidelity; `fonts/` (Cormorant Garamond and Newsreader, OFL). To rebuild: `python3 src/build.py && python3 src/extract_text.py && node src/shoot.mjs && python3 src/check.py`.
- `shots/`: `003-{desktop,mobile}-1-rings.png`, `-2-bloom.png`, `-3-point.png`, `-4-full-page.png`, and `003-mobile-reduced-motion.png`.

## 8. Open questions for the founder

1. Approve the page before anything is filed with the Internet Archive or Filecoin.

## 9. Revision, 27 September 2026, 5:10 PM PT

- Added the record row **Petals: Outer ring 12, inner ring 24**, directly after Knots. Rebuilt the page and re-shot every screenshot.
- Settled on the founder's instruction: his "center" spelling and his em dashes stay as he wrote them, and no explanation is added for "not the yoga door".
- Checks after the rebuild: no external requests, no sideways scroll, smallest text 18 px. Fidelity at rest is unchanged (0.61% of pixels differ by more than 30/255).
